Abstract/Description: | Traps are extensively used, both in the marine and inland waters and are widely regarded as low energy and low-impact fishing system. The catch composition and retention efficacy of a trap are determined by many parameters, including the physical characteristics of the trap, the type of fishing methods applied and also the behavioural characteristics of the species being targeted. The behavioural response of fishes in the wild and experimental conditions differ slightly and acclimatization to the surroundings is an issue. This in-situ trial was to optimise the angle of elevation over a wide-angle and therefore further trials and refinement with a smaller angle of elevation between 30 – 40 degrees and less is required before an actual prototype can be developed and employed for field trials. |
